Cosmic #40 – Soukaina Aziz El Idrissi
October 18, 2019
An Intro to Waste Colonialism, Craft & Forgetting Time
Forgetting time is not something we generally feel comfortable with. We know it’s good for the mind, but hey, when will I get my work done? And the logistics of family life? I can’t just sit and lose myself into an activity that will take me away from my schedule!
Sounds familiar?
This week I invited my friend and colleague Soukaina Aziz El Idrissi to come on the show. She is an artist & surface designer from Casablanca, Morocco. She works mainly with plastic waste that cannot be recycled on an industrial scale. Together, we introduce 3 topics that we are going to cover in the future: craft, waste colonialism & redefining time. What do these themes have to do with each other? Probably more than you think!
Cosmic is opening a new chapter (more on this soon) and this conversation with Soukaina gives a few hints on what’s to come. I am sure this episode will make you want to go and craft something, and forget time, for once. Please let us know how it feels – you can even send us a picture of what you’ve made at hello@becosmic.org.
Resourcefully, from somewhere in the Cosmos,✨☄
Camille.
