Cosmic #32 – Wade Davis
June 19, 2019
What It Means to Be Human
What does it mean to be human?
And what if emojis are taking over?
The development model of our societies clearly involves ethnocide: we kill languages and we kill cultures.
Are we paying attention?
How much does diversity of languages actually matter?
In Cosmic #23, we started a quest exploring what connects languages, culture & power.
In this episode, I take a deeper dive with someone who lived a unique range of experiences with the most remote communities on the planet.
Wade Davis was Explorer-in-Residence at National Geographic for some 15 years. He is a well-known Anthropologist, Storyteller, Photographer, and an Ethnobotanist with a long list of achievements, awards, articles, lectures, photographs and contributions to the narrative on cultural diversity and what it means to be human.
When I say “human beings on Planet Earth trying to figure out what the hell Is going on”, Wade Davis is definitely one of them. As you can imagine, he is also a survivor of the many adventures that explorers have to confront. He carries unique pieces of wisdom
