Cosmic #26 – Thierry Renaud

Building Leadership & Making Yourself Redundant (Philanthropy Special)
It was time to talk about money. With this episode, I am opening a discussion about where funding for impact comes from, and how to unleash its true potential. Needless to say this will take more than one interview: there is a lot to discover on how philanthropy, impact investment, public funds and other financial schemes work, and what needs to improve if we are to get things back in order on our Blue Planet.
Difficult, but not impossible.
At the MAVA Foundation, Thierry’s focus is on how organisations funded by philanthropy can sustain and thrive once they stop receiving financial support from their donors. It’s actually a reality at MAVA who will stop its philanthropic activities in 2022. This means more than 60 million dollars per year will stop flowing into environmental conservation initiatives – or at least from this Foundation. A good occasion to think about legacy, challenge philanthropy-as-usual and make sure projects will sustain on their own or via innovative financing structures that are starting to show promising results.
More episodes to come on this subject matter, please let me know your thoughts, ideas and questions in the meantime!
Dance, do more, be cosmic.
Camille.
