Beyond Humans As Humans

Written by on March 22, 2020

Humanity just put itself in quarantine. I started to grasp the irony of the situation only now. Like if the Cosmos had created the perfect conditions for us to reflect and change our way of operating as a species. All the previous signs sent to us were not enough it seems, or not ‘universal’ enough.

It’s like the Cosmos (the Universe, God… whatever you want to call it) is trying to show us all the things we don’t consider, all the things we think we know and we obviously don’t, all the things we say and do and we obviously shouldn’t, and all the things we don’t learn even when writing is on the wall. Just like if there was a much bigger crisis than this specific crisis.

Should we allow things to get back to “normal”?

The universe has a lot of humor it seems. Grounding us at home like the eternal kids that we are, longing for a “permission to go out”, shitting our pants fearing the worst, putting all hope on something external to us as individuals, for Mommy to feed us and Daddy to tell us what’s right and what’s wrong. Keeping busy with our toys. Waiting for science, for the heroes out there, for the economists and politicians to hopefully save the day. In the meantime, we get distracted in any way we can. What if each and every individual could play role in unlocking true human potential, in crafting a new paradigm, beyond our common understanding of what is human?

I am no better.

I also fear, doubt and fall into distraction. I also kept science on a pedestal, I made it my religion at first, and accepted it “has to” frame much of the politics and economics of this world. I believed in the illusion that it was for the better. I believed science must be right. I studied science intensely myself, from mechanics and electronics to quantum physics. I felt belonging to the scientific community – and I made it my reigning paradigm. Then I started engaging with the impact sector and this beautiful illusion of working to “change the world” from within this paradigm [I may write about this at a later stage, a lot can be said and debated.].

Then, other humans out there inspired me to change my mind, to explore, to think and feel in new ways, and to expand my horizons. I am extremely privileged and grateful to have received these mind-opening opportunities and have had the comfort and time to even consider them.

It’s now redefining everything I “knew”. Scary.

Science as a reigning paradigm.

I am not saying science and knowledge don’t work. It works within the frame of science, as a useful tool in the toolbox. It brought immense technological progress [needed or not? that’s another question]. Science as a reigning paradigm also brought immense problems to humanity that were not here before, and that we are currently trying to solve with more science. We like to think that “things have never been better… overall”. I seriously doubt that personally.

Ever tried to open a bottle of wine with a screwdriver?

If science is just one tool in the toolbox, what other tools are there to our disposal?

I don’t think anyone is going to do this exploration work for you. And for me neither. In 2020, by design, we want someone to tell us and give us the tactics, once more relying on an external piece of knowledge to solve our problems – exactly like what we are doing when relying on science (from Latin scientia, scire ‘know’). Isn’t the mind beautiful?

I will say I believe we are a lot less vulnerable as a species if we learn how to create reality from within ourselves – like we are doing anyway without realizing it, and as opposed to waiting for something external to solve our problem (the economy, the politics, scientific discovery, what the Pope says…). I believe we shine as humans when we know how to use our own body and mind to its full potential from within, find who we really are and connect with our inner soul.

This seems to work only as an individual journey, where knowledge can definitely be used when convenient. Like one tool among others.

As we are currently ‘grounded’ by the Cosmos, it may be a good opportunity (for those of us who have the luxury of time) to step back and look at the reigning paradigms that govern our life as individuals, and explore what other tools are available, even if they look weird or dangerous at first.

Cosmic is about exploring paradigm shift. What better time in human history to do so?

I am sending love and strength to all my heroes out there, those who care and work relentlessly to keep people healthy & alive, and those who dare taking a stab at shifting humanity’s reigning paradigms starting by their own.

Thank you for reading.

Camille.
